The Butterfly Project
Students are given a bio of a child from the Holocaust camps. Students will color a butterfly in honor of their child. Butterflies are hung from the ceiling for two weeks. The students get used to viewing them. We revisit their child biographies but read the fate of their child. If the child died, the butterfly is cut down. This gives the students a visual representation as to the proportion and scale of the children who survived.
